Peachcake – This Wasn’t Our Plan EP Out Today!!!

This Wasn’t Our Plan

Peachcake takes a sonic leap on this “accidental” EP that happened on their way to making, what promises to be, if this record is any indication, one of the best albums of the year. While the EP may well have been an accident, the music found throughout these five songs certainly is not. This is, simply said, mindblowingly awesome.  Peachcake redefines dance music as actual dance music, as in the dance music we grew up with, great beats, meaningful lyrics, aimed purpose and brilliant execution. If you have a taste for when dance music was pure ritual fun and actually made you dance, This Wasn’t Our Plan is for you. And even if you don’t, this EP is for you. This EP is for everyone that just wants to dance and lose their mind for some time, and really, what more could you ask for?

“You Matter” is the first of three songs on the EP drawn from the upcoming album Unbelievable Souls and right from the get-go the music is striking for simply how damn catchy it is and positive, just complete upbeat sun shining summer hit material. Lead singer and songwriter Stefan Pruett sings “I want you to hear it loud!” and there’s just no other way you could listen to this anthem, which deserves to be played at earth shaking volume. I’m not sure how they’ve embedded sunshine into the music, but you can practically hear the penetrating rays and the clear blue sky beaming at you.

Evoking the spirit of New Order at their peak, the cleverly titled “Speaking Of Handouts, I Got You Something” continues the brilliance and unrelenting groove.  It takes you well beyond the sonic land you expect to go at the start of the song and once again the music and lyrics are supremely positive and life affirming.  “When someone tries to tell you how to live your life, you say no, no I’m just fine!” Amazing. “Who Are These People And Why Does This Music Suck” masterfully mixed by Jalipaz at Audioconfusion and co-written by Mike McHale, follows that up and completes the album preview portion of the program, which literally leaves you wanting more, it leaves you with the sense that Unbelievable Souls will indeed be pretty unbelievable. This is dance music for a revolution of happiness.

“Great Morning (Demo)” sounds pretty damned finished to my ears and comes off, in all honesty, as one of the best songs here—which makes the EP all the more important, here is the great b-side that you will have to own. It stands as a techno drenched testament of spiritual proportions that once more focuses on positivity and showcases some of Pruett’s finest vocals. “Speaking Of Handouts, I Got You Something (Semuta Combustion Mix)” finishes this fine slab of wax with a hypnotic psychedelic dance explosion.

For This Wasn’t Our Plan, front-man Stefan Pruett teamed up with writer and producer David Jackman along with co-writer Mike McHale and it is set to be released on May 3rd, with two release extravaganzas to follow, May 12th at the Rhythm Room and May 13th at Bar Smith for Sticky Fingers, entrance to these events will include a free download card for the EP. Be on the lookout for all the fun to come from Peachcake in the near future.
