  • I know, I know, this song is two years old (really?), but it’s so great that it wraps me in a phenomenal rapture each fall, when I hear it again. I tend to associate songs with the first season I heard them in and once more it’s autumn and this song is much on my mind. Not to mention that there is something amazing about this type of mindblowing desert singed dream pop that you can feel the warm winds blow through your sould while the long shadowed autumn afternoon surrounds your mind. This also may be one of the best...

  • For the second year in a row, the Rogue will be throwing a celebration and homage to one of the greatest, if not the greatest, pop band of all time, The Beatles.  For anyone, like me, that missed last years show, you’ve been living in regret since the videos of the evening showed up (for instance Sun Ghost’s version of “Don’t Let Me Down” above) and some bands leaked nearly entire albums of their performances (if you haven’t heard The Vanjeatles Live at The Rogue, you are missing out on something). This year is going to beat last year into the...

  •   Lawyers, as a rule, don’t seem like the type that would rock out on the weekends and record an album that blends the influences of classic rock, indie rock and British Invasion sounds. The idea that four lawyers who met in law school at ASU would play in this type of outfit and release and impressive album seems pretty preposterous, if not remotely improbable.  Yet, somehow that is just who The Vanjacks are and that is just what they’ve done on Seven of Everyone. Across nine songs and forty-four minutes, The Vanjacks compile a sound collage that best represents...

  • If ever there was a song about such innocence and insouicance about being naked, this is it. I think this covers the glory and the shame all of us have felt physically in the instances, as the oh, so clever songwriter points out. This is life, this is how we’ve been, this is how we are and this is where we end up. We are naked in front of the ones that love of us so, the ones that end up seeing us so and in the end we present a proud child to the glory of the world we...

  • Dearspeak Oh, For Freedom https://www. dearspeak.com No matter what Dearspeak does, when they do it, they mean it. It’s only been a bit over a year since the release of their brilliant debut Tame The Hysteria and their new EP, Oh, For Freedom shows just how far a band can come, both in sound and sentiment. The five songs here take a snapshot of Dearspeak in time, a time after their first release, a time after lead singer Ree Boado’s solo album Pretty Little Flies, a time that is now, this is Dearspeak 2011—a band that cultivates the edgier side...
