Happy Holidays From Peachcake!!!

I’m actually surprised there isn’t more of this going around this year with the amazing music community we have–granted I’m not one for Christmas tunes, but leave it to Peachcake to step out and do it right, in their own brilliant, uniquely Peachcake way. Okay, now don’t get me wrong, Sundawg Records put out a great little weird EP called Electric Holiday, taking on the standards in a whole new light–which is brilliant in and of itself, but Peachcake wrote their own original Christmas song! That’s just impressive. I’d love to see a whole Christmas album like this from...

I’d love to see a whole Christmas album like this from this cities musical wunderkinds–after all, if What Laura Says and Black Carl can come up with songs about mass transit, I’m pretty sure they could put their mind to belt out some might powerful holiday tunes that would rock the season a little harder.  This song just sets me off into thinking what other bands could do–with the sheer instrumental power in Dry River Yacht Club can you imagine their gypsy folk rock take on a holiday carol or Ladylike pounding that piano with a Christmas original, Mergence turning in an epic number steeped in their brand of hook heavy blues. I guess I went off on a tangent there, maybe I’m only thinking this because it’s a year withour Kinchmas, but this song just got me to thinking–it wouldn’t matter what holiday the bands wanted to even celebrate, Christmas, Chanukah, Yule, Festivus, Kwanzaa, Solstice, it doesn’t matter, but having a boatload of original tunes to make the season brighter would pretty much rule any Yule I’ve known, but I digress.

Thanks to Peachcake and Jalipaz at Audioconfusion we now have  ”What Happens When Santa’s Sleigh Gets Lost?!” This song has what can only be called the signature Peachcake sound, but with sparkling Christmas flourishes (sleigh bells, anyone?) It’s just a lot of fun and I can see next year a remix ep in the works, because this song clocks in at just over four minutes, but it could be taken to infinite lengths and remain just as enjoyable. The lyics are great and if I’m not mistaken, socially conscious and of course, as with most of their work, hopeful and uplifting, which is again, one of my favorite cornerstones in their body of work, an indefatigable optimism in very nearly all they do. After giving this only a few spins, it’s my new favorite Christmas song and it’s also stuck inside my head for nearly 48 hours at this point, but enough of my yakking about it, why don’t you just give it a listen for yourself, prepare to dance and just enjoy the jingle bells out of some local Christmas bliss courtesy of Peachcake.
