PHX FMLY FEST This Friday!

If you have any plans that involve not being in Phoenix this Friday, cancel them. No, seriously, cancel  them right now. If you happen to be working your 9-5 on Friday, don’t come back from lunch. If you work Friday night, plan on calling off–that’s right just call in sick, or call in dead, whichever you prefer. This Friday, January 28th, a monumental event will occur on 5th Street between Roosevelt & Garfield in everyone’s favorite art district of Phoenix. From 1pm until the afterparty ends, the first ever PHX FMLY FEST will rock downtown with over 60 bands, art, poetry, food and much more throughout ten different venues. This will be an amazing event to finish off an astounding year in local music, what better place to do it than this vital art district where all ages are welcome and the chance to hear new and exciting sounds, as well as tried and true favorites are literally around every corner, found on every stage. With 12 hours of entertainment planned, this is one street party that simply cannot be beat–it also happens to be FREE!!! So let’s do the math, it costs nothing, you will have access to some of the best food and drink in town, you can hear as many bands as you want, have fun with interactive art, hear live poetry, watch live painting, see spoken word performed and did I mention that it’s free? There has never been an event like this before in Phoenix and I truly hope this is the first of many festivals like this. SoundsAroundTown is both proud and honored to be one of many sponsors for this spectacular carnival of sound and vision.

FMLY is a multifaceted, international collective of artists of all different styles and mediums that focuses on the idea of building a global community for DIY and community-centric individuals. They have thrown festivals in Brooklyn, Los Angeles and Orlando. They have also hosted a tour of the United States featuring artists from a variety of genres and locations. This will be the first ever FMLY Fest in Phoenix. LA FMLY FEST will be held on the 29th and 30th of December following PHX FMLY FEST.

Like any  amazing festival there will be conflicts, but we should be used to that from every weekend when you want to be in three places at once.  It’s like a mini homespun Coachella, sacrifices will be made, decisions must be determined–do you see KNESSET, PALMS or Spririt Cave at 6 pm, do you see Emby Alexander, Them Savages, Rough Tough Dynamite, A Life Of Science or Father’s Day at 7pm, do you see Dearspeak, Wooden Indian or All My Friends at 9pm…and so the list goes on. But, enough of my yakking, check out the goods below on this true community event.
