  • I may be flogging a dead horse here, but I’m really excited about this show. I haven’t been out to shows for a few weeks and this will be a great way to return to catching live music. It also happens that I’m super excited about every single act here and seeing them throw down at Crescent Ballroom. Here is an entire lineup of up and coming acts that are really gaining speed and it’s a show that should go down in the “I Remember When” category a year from now. It’s also at Crescent on a Sunday night and...

  • It was nearly three years ago that Genre blew my mind. I was super excited about them and then they disappeared. I have no idea what happened, I know they put out an EP that I failed  to cover, but I somehow stayed in touch with Zac Markey and Corey Gomez, thankfully. If there  was one band that I hoped would return to the scene it was Genre. And they have, thankfully.  Scrape Your Voices On The Stars is one of the most exciting releases available, period. I’m not clinging to hyperbole here. This is six songs of pure brilliance...

  • Celebration Guns and Twin Ponies were two of my favorite debuting bands of 2013 and this weekend they will release a split release on Rubber Brother Records that marks the first first available recordings by either bend since their debut EP releases.  Indeed, Celebration Guns Quitter EP and Twin Ponies Pores EP are two records from last year that are still in heavy rotation for me even now. I first heard about this split release back in January and February and I’ve been bugging both bands about it ever since. When I check out the live shows for each band,...

  • I honestly don’t know what to make of Luna Aura’s music, this is not a bad thing, it’s because I find it utterly and uniquely fascinating. This makes me all the more excited to hear the rest of her self-titled debut EP that was recorded this Spring at Capital Records. I mean you’ve got trippy synths, crazy beats, it’s like techno fused power pop for people raised in space, the chorus is hooky as hell and there is of course the absolutely magnetic allure of her sultry vocals–it’s positively dreamy and this is the first taste of what’s to come....

  • I’ve been looking forward to this show for quite sometime and now its nearly here so I can urge everyone to hit Rogue Bar this Thursday night–Friday morning be damned, it’s nothing that coffee or energy drinks can’t fix, stay out late, help a goddamned cute dog our and check out some great bands. There is nothing about this evening I don’t like come to think about it. First of all, I love Rogue Bar and all that it entails, second I get to see Villains again and I’m pretty psyched about that, third I highly recommend The Electric Blankets...

  • Well, I have to say, I’m surprised that I’ve been able to keep this one man show going for three years. In that time I’ve had 239 posts, which in retrospect is slightly disappointing, I’d like to do more. I certainly would have if there hadn’t been the great laptop disaster of November/December of 2013, or the occasional bouts of madness/illness that occasionally forces me to take a month off at a time here and there. Still, I recall when I started this site that someone wrote to me and wished me the best of luck, and that they had...
