Well, there is a hell of a lot going on this weekend and there are no shortage of choices going on here that’s for sure. Interestingly enough three events alone center on the celebration of local luminary P.C. hitting the half century mark. This man has been a legend around the scene for many years and you can spend up to three nights in a row celebrating his 50th birthday. There is lots of other stuff to do as well, so let’s check out what’s happening. Sensibly, because this is Labor Day weekend the shows just spill into next week as well.

12:55-??:?? – FAIRY BONES
Commentary: I love that the set time for Fairy Bones is set to end at ??:??, hell it might go all night! Nah, I’m pretty sure it will end at 2 am. I have heard nothing but great things about Sedusa’s new lineup, Leonardo DiCapricorn are some fantastic punks, I have been dying to see Harper & The Moths. And everyone knows I love the hell out of Fairy Bones. This show also happens to be the best thing going tonight.

When & Where: Sunday, August 31st 7pm at Crescent Ballroom
Reasons To Attend: Ummm…look at that freaking lineup!!! So many things to be excited about on this night! I’m not sure how they are going to fit it all in with a start time of 7pm, but maybe Crescent will let a show run past Midnight! Plus, it’s Labor Day Sunday and you probably don’t have to be to work on Monday, which means you have no excuse to miss this.
Extra Details: Confirmed acts per facebook differs from the flyer above (by that I mean that Mergence is not listed)-
SUNDAY AUG 31 – Doors 6pm/Show @ 7 – $15 Cover
Dry River Yacht Club
The Sugar Thieves
Sara Robinson & The Midnight Special
Commentary: The only thing I can add to that lineup is that, if I’m not mistaken this will only be the second time that Sara Robinson & The Midnight Special have played with their new guitarist Nick Sterling after at lease a month of intense practice. That should be fantastic. But, wow, the lineup, even if Mergence isn’t playing this is still mind blowing.
When & Where: Monday, September 1st, 7pm at Crescent Ballroom
Reasons To Attend: The final night of this three day celebration for local luminary PC. This night has a lot of veteran acts you may not be aware of that commanded the local stage over a decade ago–bands that used to rule the nights at the old Long Wong’s when it was on Mill Ave. This a great lineup and if these acts look completely unfamiliar to you I suggest you make this your aural destination for Labor Day evening.
Extra Details: This night has more acts listed on the Facebook page than on the flyer-
MONDAY SEPT 1 – Doors 6pm/Show @ 7 – $10 cover
Dead Hot Workshop
Truckers on Speed
Chuck Hall & The Brick Wall
Tramps & Thieves
The Chocolate Fountain Experience
Commentary: Seriously, if you are in the know or have any sense of history about Arizona Music, you know this is a great evening. If you don’t, I recommend getting educated. Call in sick on Tuesday if you have to do so.
When & Where: Tuesday, September 2nd, 8pm at Crescent Ballroom
Reasons To Attend: Hear Tina Estes, a talented vocalist and multi-instrumentalist perform with her full band! She blends the sounds of neo-soul, Pop and R&B in a refreshing new way.
Extra Details: Opening is Alyssia & Andrew an amazing acoustic duo, and featuring is none other than the incomparable Morris Alan and The Stakes one of the Valley’s most eclectic and multi-talented groups on the scene. This is a night of fusion you will not want to miss!!!
Commentary: Want something completely different, do this on Tuesday. I had the fortune of catching Tina Estes at Ree Boado’s release show earlier this. She did a solo set that night and I was blown away by her voice, her presence and how personable she was. She will have a full band this evening and I can’t even imagine how great that will be!
