Video Premiere: Fairy Bones “Banshee”

I have never hidden my affection and adoration for Fairy Bones from the first moment I saw them. Subsequently, I think I’ve written about ever release and moment of their budding career as one of the most compelling rock acts in Phoenix. Today, Fairy Bones is releasing their video for “Banshee”, a truly great single from their full length album debut Dramabot, released earlier this year. For a complete run down on the album you can check out the track by track review found HERE. It is one album released so far this year that I still find myself listening to on a weekly basis. I still stand by what I wrote in my album review: Led by the charismatic, power packed, dynamo Chelsey Louise (vocals/piano), with the insanely affable Robert Ciuca (guitar/bass/synth), the amazing Ben Foos (bassist/keyboardist), and the ever shirtless Matthew Foos (drums), Fairy Bones has been one of the most well received and well respected bands in town and their live shows are always stunning. Before they had even released their first EP in October 2013 they had already been signed to local label 80/20 Records and had begun recording with the inimitable Bob Hoag at Flying Blanket. They are one of the hardest working bands in town and Dramabot is the culmination of this hard work and dedication to their vision. They describe themselves as “electronic grunge rock,” but it’s much more rock than it is electronic and probably a bit more indie than grunge, but it definitely rocks through and through.

“Banshee” is two minutes of furious pounding madness, where I have to admit that Matthew just blows my mind completely, here too Ciuca’s guitar is just brilliant within the whirling chaos of this manic number. Also, because of this track, I could totally see Louise spending a spare night or two fronting a metal band, but keeping it a complete secret. The entire band completely rocks it and it’s been one of my favorite songs in their canon since it first appeared. The video is a stunning showcase for the band itself in all their glorious weirdness. Directed by Jeremy Tremp with styling by Kelly Gordon Sahr and Dictator Fantasyland, it really shows Fairy Bones being them selves at their freakish best. The video captures the band rocking out in a warehouse, through a variety of outfits, though to note, Matthew Foos has a shirt on the entire time, which is odd since I’ve only ever see that happen once at a live show. Still, there is something stunning visually about the band here–especially, the group shots on the couch. They are beautiful freaks and certainly some of my favorites. Chelsea is as alluring as ever, the Foos brothers look spectacular and Robert looks insane. There is not a natural hair color found between the four of them and it’s bloody brilliant. Please check it out below and enjoy the magic of Fairy Bones “Banshee.”

Be sure to catch Fairy Bones as they open for Mother Mother on Wedneday, June 3rd at The Pressroom. In case you haven’t picked up your tickets yet you can click HERE to purchase them right now. This will be an amazing show at an immaculate venue guaranteed to blow your mind.

“Banshee”
You tell me I’m small
but I have earthly ways to deal

I’ll inhale into my lungs
Smoke for every meal
We’re just dreaming
These monsters don’t sleep
Under your bed
They’re in your head

Banshee knows what she’s done
Can’t face the light of day
We’re just dreaming

Give them something, right?
Wanna give them something to love.

Banshee knows what she’s done
Can’t face the light of day
We’re just dreaming
