What’s Going Ahhhn…

This is a pretty sensational week for live local music including a few festivals in Mesa of all places. As always, Friday and Saturday are pretty overwhelming, so make you decisions carefully. With the beautiful weather arriving a bit early, there is no reason to stay in, get out there and frolic, have a good time and stay safe! Check this roster out, it all starts Thursday night!

When & Where: Thursday, February 11th, 7pm at Valley Bar
Reasons To Attend: If you were a fan of Ladylike or Loveblisters you need to be at Valley Bar on Thursday night. Rob Kroehler has been making some incredible solo sounds lately and this will be a showcase for what he’s been working on. He will be joined one of my favorite debut bands of last year New Chums as well as The Vanjacks who only seem to play once a year anymore (also, it’s a band oddly composed of all lawyers). I can’t recommend this show enough.
Other Details: Rob Kroehler, formerly of Ladylike and the Loveblisters plays original songs with friends!
PLUS New Chums and
The Vanjacks

When & Where: Thursday, February 11th, 8pm at Yucca Tap Room
Reasons To Attend: Danger Paul is leaving his twenties behind and to celebrate this fact, he’s put on a killer lineup at Yucca Tap Room. He’ll be spearheading The Psychedelephants along with Twin Ponies, Hannah Bones and Sleep Institute. If you are in Tempe Thursday night, this is where you should be for maximum enjoyment.
Other Details: Celebrate Danger Paul’s 30th Birthday at Yucca Tap Room with us!

Show starts at 8:30PM – Free

When & Where: Thursday, February 11th, 9pm at Lost Leaf
Reasons To Attend: Slow Moses was once known as Wooden Indian and they have a new album they are about to release. Good Friends Great Enemies put out of the best albums of last year (not just local albums, all albums). Together they will be bringing the noise to Lost Leaf. This is as Indie Rock as it gets. I recommend altering your perceptions before walking through the door.
Other Details: None to speak of other than that this will be a great show.

When & Where: Friday, February 12th, 6pm at Joe’s Grotto
Reasons To Attend: If you loud and dirty Friday night, this is the show for you! I’m confused by the early start time, but if you want to rock hard, I recommend you get there early. Check out the bands at the links below.

When & Where: Friday, February 12th, 8pm at Time Out Lounge
Reasons To Attend: Snailmate is releasing their second EP in less than a year! This fact alone should be celebrated with a party and so they’ve arranged a party featuring The Bittersweet Way, Ana Log, Japhy’s Descent and Companeros. Yeah, read that lineup again. I don’t often go to Time Out Lounge, but I’m not sure I can pass this show up. Also, Snailmate’s new EP is pretty great!

When & Where: Friday, February 12th, 6pm at Club Red
Reasons To Attend: I was aware of the festival on Saturday at Club Red, but not this one. I can’t find many details out about it other than what is on the flyer above. Even that’s not complete, because I found out about through Bad Neighbors who will be there, but I don’t see their name on this flyer. Also, if your going, be sure to check out Something Like December, Dwarf and Painting Fences!
Other Details: That flyer is all I know about this event.

When & Where: Friday, February 12th, 9pm at Lost Leaf
Reasons To Attend: This is a pretty stunning lineup. I have simply this to say. If you haven’t seen Citrus Clouds live yet, you have no idea what you’re missing. They are simply phenomenal live and make their debut EP pale in comparison to what they do on stage. This is also the second chance you get to see The Psychedelephants this weekend!

When & Where: Saturday, February 13th, Noon at Club Red
Reasons To Attend: This amazing charity event will be the only thing that can possibly get me out of bed before noon on Saturday. I wanted to work out sometime Saturday, unfortunately it appears this damn lineup will keep me occupied all day. This is seriously great from beginning to end. Between acts I’ve known and loved for sometime, there are no less than six bands I’ve been meaning to check out live and they can all be found in one place on one day in Mesa. This is a great event for a great cause and I cannot recommend it enough!
Other Details: 1st Annual Ball-A-Palooza music festival in Mesa, Arizona hosted by Michael Muriett in honor of his son who passed away at the early age of 19. $15 for 15 great bands! When & Where: Saturday, February 13th, 7pm at Rogue Bar
Reasons To Attend: Scattered Melodies put out one of my favorite records last year, so did Treasurefruit, I’ve seen both of these bands recently and they blow me away every time. They will be joined by The Pubes and The Old Storm. This lineup is solid and it’s sure to be fun with those Scattered Melodies boys hanging out. Also, tell Anamieke that you need to buy the new Treasurefruit album, because you actually do need to buy the new Treasurefruit album.
Other Details: That guy went to Jared and her kiss began with Kay, but now you’re broke as ever put your Love on Layaway, so come and hang out with Scattered Melodies, and don’t forget to tell all your friends and families.

When & Where: Saturday, February 13th, 8pm at Lost Leaf
Reasons To Attend: This is a damned exciting lineup. Andy Warpigs, DaDadoh, MC/DC and Wolfzie. I’ve heard tell that this is DaDadoh’s lineup dream come true. Also I’ve heard that Andy Warpigs and MC/DC put out one of the best EPs of the year so far and DaDadoh produced it in a single night. Yeah, it’s going to be a real cool time.
Other Details: This starts at 8pm, no word on set times as of yet.

When & Where: Saturday, February 13th, 8pm at Pho Cao
Reasons To Attend: I dearly love the debut EP from Hostile Work Environment and this is the night it will be unleashed upon the public! The lineup is fantastic and I will almost certainly be spending some portion of my evening at Pho Cao. Cassidy is always a treat, Darkness Dear Boy sounds amazing at Pho, DeadFoxx will cause the paint to peel from sheer volume alone and Zodiac Bash are on the verge of maybe, possibly releasing their debut EP which you’re going to love…just trust me on that.
Other Details: Hostile Work Environment is releasing their debut ep “Suave Labor” on Feburary 13th at Pho Cao. We cannot wait to share what we have been working on with everyone! There will be a listening party before the bands start playing. We have a great line up of our super talented friends

When & Where: Saturday, February 13th, 8pm at Crescent Ballroom
Reasons To Attend: So, I think it was a little over a month ago that there was this fantastic Cover The Crescent that had one group, for one night only, play Dylan’s Nashville Skyline, and The Odd Byrds for one night only would cover the Byrds Sweetheart Of The Rodeo. Sadly, one of the guitarists collapsed on stage a few songs in for the Odd Byrds. This is there night to revisit the Crescent stage and give it their all. If you dig Americana, this is part of where it all began and it’s going to sound great.
Other Details: $7 cover/21+ The Odd Byrds with One F and Inuit.

When & Where: Saturday, February 13th, 8:30pm at Mad Hatter
