What’s Going Ahhhn…

Alright, you desert loving lizards, just because it’s starting to get a little warm, doesn’t mean you have to stop keeping cool with some live, local music this week. There’s good music everywhere for miles, looking through my favorite acts and venues, these are my picks for some great shows to get you out of your air conditioned dwelling and into living life and digging some sweet sounds. This week I even help you around the bend and into Monday!
When & Where: Wednesday, June 8th, 7pm at Pho Cao
Reasons To Attend: DaDadoh is taking over Pho Cao every Wednesday night for the rest of the month, well except for next Wednesday, so all but one. The point is this is totally freaking cool and it gives you a chance to catch some amazing music that you may not have known even existed locally. Unless you read my shit, then you should be aware of most of this stuff. This Wednesday has a flawless lineup, but then I notice that about the other weeks as well.
We’re taking over Pho Cao for a couple Wednesdays in the month of June with the Tvlife Entertainment roster in tow and a few of our audio excentric associates! Dadadoh will be performig some stand up comedy as well as new material from his forthcoming album! All shows are absolutely FREE and ALL AGES!

When & Where: Thursday, June 9th, 8pm at Pub Rock Live
Reasons To Attend: There’s been a recent rash of great shows at Pub Rock Live lately and the fact is that I really dig that venue, so long as there’s decent music playing there. The music playing there on Thursday is far beyond decent with local faves Phantom Party and Harrison Fjord providing support for Harriet. Not sure this kind of show can be  beat for a Thursday!

When & Where: Friday, June 10th, 7pm at The Newton
Reasons To Attend: The Newton has been holding more and more performances of local acts lately and that’s great to see. This lineup is pretty unbelievable, I mean this would be great for Crescent on a Friday, much less The Newton. If you are unfamiliar with any of these acts, first check your head, then get to The Newton on Friday.
Other Details: Join us at The Newton (Changing Hands) on Friday, June 10th for an evening of music with Robin Vining (Sweetbleeders, Jimmy Eat World, Minibosses) and Jon Rauhouse (Neko Case, Iron & Wine/Ben Bridwell, Jacob Dylan, Jon Rauhouse Orchestra). When & Where: Saturday, June 11th, 8pm at Rip’s Bar
Reasons To Attend: A super long time ago I wrote a whole deal about a Voodoo Swing video I fell in love with, mainly for the song, but it was long ago and I don’t even remember if it’s still online or not. The point is they were great four or five years ago and they are probably just as great now if not better (face it, this kind of music gets better with age). They have a new album rolling out and it’s their first in a long while, this may well be worth your time to check it out.
Other Details: Come on out and celebrate the release of Voodoo Swing’s new album “To You My Friend”! $5.00 at the door
When & Where: Saturday, June 11th, 8pm at The Rogue Bar
Reasons To Attend: This is a stupidly good lineup. That’s all I got, really. I mean for five dollars and you get to hang at my favorite dive bar? Reasons this should be a priority in your life? Citrus Clouds. Sleep Institute. Painted Bones. Hannah Bones. Kim Jong Swoon. Stupidly great lineup and it all kicks off with Miijas from Texas.

When & Where: Saturday, June 11th, 8pm at Third Space
Reasons To Attend: I don’t normally get out as far West as ThirdSpace because I like to think it’s a million miles away until I go there and then I realize it’s not and then I feel stupid. This may actually get me to Third Space. I think Brandon Decker is making some of the most important music coming out of Arizona and this is the second chance to catch decker. this weekend. If you saw the full set at Yucca on Friday or you’ve seen it before, you may want to check out the stripped down version on Saturday. Some Dark Hollow just dropped an amazing new record and they will be doing a stripped down set as well, while The Blood Feud Family Singers will complete this trifecta of Americana delights. The more I look at the lineup, the more my ears salivate how this will sound going down.

When & Where: Sunday, June 12th, 8pm at The Rebel Lounge
Reasons To Attend: So I can’t help but notice that The Rebel Lounge keeps holding these really cool shows on Sunday nights, when nothing else is happening in town. I can’t make all of them, but it seems to be a trend. This Sunday is one of those showcases and if I wasn’t doing a video shoot, I’d be there for Troubled Minds and The Echo Bombs alone. I hope this trend at Rebel continues!
Other Details: Band Details below…
When & Where: Monday, June 13th, 8pm at Valley Bar
