What’s Going Ahhhn…

As always, August ends with a bang, rather than a whimper. This is an absolute killer week in local music and though the Summer stayed pretty busy, the coming months will have dozens of fantastic shows a week instead of only a dozen. It’s a subtle reminder of just how good we have it here when it comes to our ridiculously vibrant music scene. This will also be the week where I start attending more shows than ever before out of sheer necessity. This is EP and album release season and these lineups are freaking stacked with the best and the brightest. Hell, I’m missing a killer show on a Monday night, because I wanted to get this out early, so I could write even more. It’s a vicious cycle, but enough of my yakking, let’s boogie.

When & Where: Tuesday, August 30th, 8pm at The Rogue Bar
Reasons To Attend: I have to go to this show, I simply have no choice. My disgust with Trump as a human being aside, this lineup is completely stacked on a freaking Tuesday night! It’s the last Tuesday Residency for Citrus Clouds at Rogue Bar and they just dropped the first single from their new EP. And that’s not all! I mean, I can’t get over some of the lineups this week in general, but there is also my new faves GORKY throwing down, old faves The Echo Bombs are going to tear shit up, Sleep Institute blows my mind every time I see them, and The Lonesome Wilderness has a new record coming out soon which literally makes my mouth water (weird reaction, I know). This is ridiculously good.
Other Details: Come party and hate on Drumpf with Citrus Clouds for the last night of their August Residency! Joining them will be The Echo BombsGorkyThe Lonesome Wilderness, and Sleep Institute!
If Donald Trump gets elected, there’ll be hell toupée.

When & Where: Wednesday, August 31st, 7:30pm at Last Exit Live
Reasons To Attend: I know, I know, I said no fliers, no mention. Well, I’m also not a heartless bastard and this is a benefit show for the magnificent Tony Ziemba. He’s been  a fantastic photographer for everything musical in Phoenix for ages and I think we’d all like it to stay that way. The lineup is amazing and it’s the perfect way to enjoy some music while feeling good about the cover charge.

When & Where: Wednesday, August 31st, 8:00pm at Pho Cao
Reasons To Attend: Remember when Darkness Dear Boy put out that magnificent album and then fell off the face of the Earth? Well, they didn’t really, but in retrospect it seems like they did. I would highly recommend hitting Pho Cao this Wednesday to catch  them along with Brutha White and The Effects!
Other Details: Darkness Dear Boy pairs nicely with Pho which works out perfectly since we’re playing at Pho Cao on Wednesday August 31st! Brutha White is going on at 8:00 followed by The Effects at 9:00 then DDB at 10:00.

When & Where: Wednesday, August 31st 8pm at Yucca Tap Room
Reasons To Attend: I’ll be in the middle of moving, but if I was free, I think I would try to hit this show for the overall lineup. I just have a feeling this will be a killer evening. As an added bonus this is one of the coolest damn flyers I’ve seen in a while.

When & Where: Thursday, September 1st, 8pm at The Rebel Lounge
Reasons To Attend: Well, this is something of a dream lineup for me. It’s difficult to comprehend that this is happening on a Thursday night, but that seems to be the new Friday for live music in what is becoming a continual three day weekend. Paper Foxes will be releasing their brand new fantastic EP, Harper & The Moths will be showing off some new material and a new drummer, Saddles being on any lineup is reason for attendance alone and Patro will be pulling double duty with the stunning Zodiac Bash. None of these bands have played in ages (or it seems that way some how) and this is going to be one of the best concerts of the year.
Other Details: There are amazingly few details about this online, the above information should be all you need to know.

When & Where: Friday, September 2nd, 7pm at Lawn Gnome Publishing
Reasons To Attend: Man oh, man do I hate dealing with the First Friday crowds, but this may well get me there to endure that because Dadadoh and WOLFZiE, both of whom I can’t get enough of these days. Dadadoh just dropped one of the best fucking records of the year and WOLFZiE is about to do the same. This will be amazing.

When & Where: Friday, September 2nd, 8pm at Yucca Tap Room
Reasons To Attend: Friday nights at the Yucca are always a good time and with the angsty confessionals of Anthony Fama and the murder ballads Blood Feud Family Singers, it’s going to be a great time. I can’t vouch for the other bands, but I know the first two will be your jam.

When & Where: Saturday, September 3rd, 8pm at Crescent Ballroom
Reasons To Attend: I ran into Corey Gloden last weekend and I told him I was going through a bit of Wyves withdrawal, he said “You know next weekend we have a show with a bunch of your bands at Crescent.” My bands. I had never thought about particular bands being mine before, but this is a heavily stacked lineup completely in my favor. To be fair, I have written about every single release by every band on this bill, so maybe that’s what he meant. Either way, I have no choice but to be at Crescent on Saturday, because this lineup is fucking obscene.

When & Where: Saturday, September 3rd, 9pm at Lost Leaf
Reasons To Attend: Ghost Cat Attack is getting ready to record pretty soon, FITS is putting out single after single, and i.am.hologram just put out his second album of the year. This will be an absolutely killer show to attend. Three of my favorite acts in one very small space. A perfect lineup to be sure.
Other Details: We had a blast at Lost Leaf last month and we’re excited to rock the house on a Saturday night this time!! For all those who had to miss out on our last show due to an early morning the next day… here’s your chance to rock out all night long with us! :)

When & Where: Saturday, September 3rd, 9pm at Third Space
Reasons To Attend: I’m moving to Cen Pho this week and one of the things that excites me about that is that I will probably have no problem heading out to Grand Ave for a show here and there. It’s this kind of show at Third Space I’m talking about. Great talents at great spaces. If you are on that side of town I wouldn’t go further than Third Space to catch Fat Gray Cat, Eddie Detroit and James Brown Band Band.
Other Details: Please join Fat Gray Cat with Friends Eddy Detroit and James Brown Band Band as we welcome to town Shane Hancock visiting from Costa Rica – lets party
