Let the cavalcade of release shows get into full swing! This is a hell of a week to start doing just that and there’s at least three of them and so many more in the weeks ahead. This is a great week all around with some amazing lineups and once more Saturday will be a bear to decide and Friday isn’t too easy either. Overall it’s a pretty fine balance. Check out the action below…
When & Where: Tuesday, January 10th, 8pm at The Rebel Lounge
Reasons To Attend: Note to self, check out Thurston. I remember catching them once and being blown away, but I forgot to follow up. If they have Cheap Hotels opening for them they have to be great. Innocent Elaine completes the trio and I need to find out what that’s all about as well.
Other Details: THURSTON at The Rebel Lounge
When & Where: Thursday, January 12th, 7pm at The Trunk Space
Reasons To Attend: I think this may be where I need to be on Thursday night if I’m anywhere at all. The idea of a mindbending noise show is right up my alley these days and I adore some of those involved, specifically WOLFZiE, Gimpheart and Rainbowfucker. This is an evening to get over that verse chorus verse bullshit straight away and leave you thinking differently about music. Or not. What the fuck do I know.
Other Details: PHX SUX presents another night of noise music. All ages. Free (donations accepted but not required)
intense, typically intermittent pain along the course of a nerve, esp. in the head or face.
Here’s some collaborative noise sherpas:
WOLFheart – the mind meld of Gimpheart X WOLFZiE (or maybe GimpZiE?)
Rainbowf•cker – Tempe based noises trio FFO: HEALTH, Lightning Bolt, Melt Banana, Hella, etc
Igloo Martian and friends – circuit bent noise and performance artist extraordinaiire from Tucson https://youtu.be/nYpWrme6Zt8?t=4m3s
Professor Scott Murray – modular-based ambient space droning
Lav Andula – noise future-tech witch-house fusion from Thrillerscope Records https://soundcloud.com/thrillerscoperecords/lav-andula-viscera-ft-isreal
Kerosene Achieves Truth – vapor-synth sample sculpturing noise artisthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqlZWKtiCO0&feature=youtu.be
Live video by Benj Braman of Amethyst Seer
When & Where: Thursday, January 12th, 8pm at The Rogue Bar
Reasons To Attend: There is not one, but two noise shows happening in town on Thursday night, so for digging into the riches of noise rock and other musings you have your choice between Trunk Space or this lineup at The Rogue. This is going to be an interesting year in local music to be sure. More details than I could ever imagine are below.
Other Details: Thrillerscope is bringing you a night of soothing grooves w/some of PHX’s finest underground dance artists, along with Jaime J Soto, an incredible experimental noise//pop artist from Tuscon.
Jaime J Soto (experimental noise//pop)
VULPES (spooky footwork/juke/beat)
Templeture (future multi-genre dance)
$kvnk Dvddy (spicy hip-hop/rap/bass)
Daniel Fury (dark techno/aural discord/tracy chapman remixes)
Fugly Chuds (ambient noise/industrial ecto-plasm)
heavy†black (witch house/hip-hop/ghost surf)
set times (may change a bit)
9:45- $kvnk Dvddy
11:15- Jaime J Soto
12:øø- Daniel Fury
12:45- Fugly Chuds
[[All of the artists featured are very unique from one another, and eclectic as hell. Nights we have like this tend to be a continuous/cohesive musical spectrum from light to dark electronic.
If you're more into futuristic/spooky dance stuff, come out early in the night; if you're feelin more like leaving your body to a soundtrack of harsh yet soothing experimental electronic, later in the night is where you'll wanna be. Bonus points if both are for you]]
When & Where: Thursday, January 12th, 8pm at Valley Bar
Reasons To Attend: This may be one of those weeks where you find yourself living at Valley Bar and this is the start of that. This is an amazing lineup and I’ll be hard pressed about the choice I need to make Thursday night. Seriously though, this is a fantastic lineup for a sold out Saturday, it would not surprise me if everyone said fuck Friday and sells this sucker out on a Thursday. This is definitely the most fun you can find downtown Thursday night, unless you are going through a noise rock phase, I’d suggest you ramp up to dance the night away at Valley Bar.
Other Details: We are happy to bring you a night of the Livest Hip-Hop and Soul in Phoenix!
Nick Perkins Band
Truminati Music Group (I-Dee, Eddie Wellz, Salty Brasi, Lamar Crushin)

When & Where: Friday, January 13th, 7pm at Valley Bar
Reasons To Attend: It’s been a minute since The Senators have released new music and I’m pretty excited to hear what they’re laying down these days. The Jon Rauhouse Combo should be amazing, Dylan Pratt is always amazing and this should be a fantastic night to chill out in the Valley Bar basement and enjoy an Americana steeped evening.

When & Where: Friday, January 13th, 7:30pm at Shady Park
Reasons To Attend: So here’s a lineup that’s what I like to refer to as “stupidly good.” I’m not sure what the capacity is on Shady Park, but here’s to hoping it doesn’t rain so that we can find out. Seriously stupid good. Banana Gun. decker. Bear Ghost. Japhy’s Descent. Just fucking wow.
Other Details: 2017
Banana Gun, decker., Bear Ghost and Japhy’s Descent!
When & Where: Friday, January 13th, 8pm at Rip’s Ales & Cocktails
Reasons To Attend: If you are sticking to CenPho this Friday, may I direct your attention to this magnificent radio benefit for Erratic Radio. I wasn’t sure Plainfield Butchers were a thing anymore, but I’m glad they are, Soft Deadlines are one of my absolute faves, The Apaches make surf music for my soul, and clearly I need to check out The Halahs. This is a damn fine night.
Other Details: Erratic! Radio Benefit show featuring:
When & Where: Friday, January 15th, 9pm at Pho Cao
Reasons To Attend: If you are really into guys slinging guitars like a ringing a bell, check out Pho Cao Friday night for all of your needs in that regard. Ben Anderson, Lee Perreira and Jay Allan are all ringers when it comes to the six string and this is one hell of a lineup. Add great food and drink into that mix and it’s a winner.
Other Details: Pho Cao presents
Ben Anderson at 9pm
Lee Perreira at 10pm
Jay Allan and the Uncommon Good at 11:30pm
When & Where: Saturday, January 14th, 6pm at The Trunk Space
Reasons To Attend: YabYum celebrates the end of their awards season with one hell of a celebration this year! I know how taxing end of the year lists and awards can be and they have all my sympathy–but they’re so cool they’re throwing a show to close the whole thing out. And of course the lineup is ridiculously stacked. Phenomenal.
Other Details: Our annual awards kick off on January 1st and we’re celebrating on January 14th at The Trunk Space. Performances by PAO Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra, decker., Fairy Bones, Nanami Ozone, and Phantom Party!! Hosted by Hotrock Supajoint!

We’ll be joined by the good people of KWSS 93.9 FM, Wasted Ink Zine Distro, Radio Phoenix, and live artists!!
Award winners will be notified and trophies can be picked up at the Trunk Space on the 14th!
When & Where: January 14th, 7pm at Last Exit Live
Reasons To Attend: Vintage Wednesday is releasing their highly anticipated second record and I can assure you that every song on it is worth your time and for that matter, your money. This show features a ton of new talent poised to take over the town in the next few years and I can at least vouch of Joe Vito and People Who Could Fly. This is going to be an amazing evening and Vintage Wednesday is a rising force in the local scene that has the talent and ambition to go well beyond Arizona. You should get a taste of that musical action early on.
Other Details: Vintage Wednesday is releasing their 2nd EP entitled Heartstrings! We’re so excited to share Heartstrings with everyone!

When & Where: Saturday, January 14th, 8pm at The Rebel Lounge
Reasons To Attend: I have no reference to Naked Walrus, but I can tell you that El West and Headstrum are both fantastic. They are both specifically fantastic at The Rebel Lounge. Seriously, those cats will blow you away there.
Other Details: NAKED WALRUS, EL WEST, HEADSTRUM
$8 – $10
When & Where: Saturday, January 14th, 8pm at Valley Bar
Reasons To Attend: Yeah, so this little show is completely off the hook good. It also get’s the award for the sexiest flyer of the week that’s for sure. The lineup is even sexier. My new favorite things sunlaand will be kicking this show off and I’m totally stoked. The Darts are up next and if you liked their records online, you have no idea how much you are going to love them live. Like even if you thought the record was just okay…live…trust me, epiphany worthy. Finally, Snake!Snake!Snakes! who spent last year increasing their catalog by 1000% with the release of an immaculate album and a perfect follow up EP. This lineup is so good it hurts.
Other Details: Set times below…
9p The Darts – US
10p Snake! Snake! Snakes!
11p DJ party!
When & Where: January 14th, 8pm at Crescent Ballroom
Reasons To Attend: Injury Reserve is having a release party and will perform their new album Floss in its entirety.
Other Details: Injury Reserve performs Floss in its entirety.
When & Where: Sunday, January 15th 7pm at 51 West
Reasons To Attend: I’m beginning to wonder if Andy Warpigs has a gig every Sunday. If he doesn’t, he should. There should be one day a week where you can reliably catch an Andy Warpigs show. Sunday should be that day. Any given Sunday you should be able to ask yourself if you want to see Andy Warpigs. If the answer’s yes, you can then just find out where he’s playing. If the answer’s no, you can revisit the question next Sunday. It would just be nice to have that kind of security.
Other Details: Band lineup below…
Pity Party (OAK)
Andy Warpigs (PHX Punk Prince)

Doors 6:30 Show 7:00
