Wow what a week! And it’s not all slammed into Friday night this round, though that’s a typical mess of difficult choices. Three shows on Tuesday, a few on Wednesday, a ton on Thursday (some not represented below for lack of a flyer)–there’s a reason I’m getting this out early this week. Actually the reason is that I’m going non-local tomorrow to catch WIRE for the first time in twenty years and then Wednesday I’ll be glued to Rebel Lounge so really this is my only night to write. Either way, this week is amazing and right in line with the beautiful weather clinging to some semblance of Spring. Check it out…more shows will be added as they are announced or as I receive flyers…
When & Where: Tuesday, March 28, 7:30 pm at The Rebel Lounge
Reasons To Attend: Yeah, if I hadn’t bought my ticket for another show a while ago, this is absolutely where I would be, mainly because I’ve got a bad case of Fairy Bones withdrawal. Also on the local front, Shovel is amazing if you haven’t seen them yet. Add to that The Dollyrots and The Two Tens and you’ve got one of the most bad ass Tuesday nights of all time.

When & Where: Tuesday, March 28, 7:30 pm at Valley Bar
Reasons To Attend: I’m beginning to think Electric Six just really loves Phoenix with the frequency of their visits, but what’s not to love? They are always great and they put on one hell of a show. Add to that local garage rock darlings The Darts and this evening is made in the shade of the basement of Valley Bar.

When & Where: Wednesday, March 29th, 7pm at The Rebel Lounge
Reasons To Attend: So, Phoenix New Times did this weird little competition thing to make a March Madness take on the local roster. I only consulted on the initial list and voted my choices as it went along. The way I figured it, from the original list, whatever four bands that finished would make a damn fine show regardless of how the vote rolled. That said, the combination of Jerusafunk, Bear Ghost, The Stakes and CooBee Coo is unbelievably good. Contest or not, it’s a damn fine and fairly early show to enjoy the hell out of on a Wednesday night!
Other Details: PHOENIX MUSIC MADNESS at The Rebel Lounge
When & Where: Wednesday, March 29th, 8pm at Valley Bar
Reasons To Attend: Gringo Star is great, but getting two of Phoenix’ finest acts as support may find them overshadowed by the likes of No Volcano and Weird Radicals. I don’t want to make this a competition or anything, I’m just saying those particular locals can blow a lot of regional and national acts out of the water. Get there early to watch the sparks arc in the dark.

When & Where: Friday, March 31st, 8pm at Shady Park
Reasons To Attend: Well, two or three of these bands would make a great show, but I guess five will do just fine as well. DAISY just released their best record yet, Naked Walrus is a frequent visiting band from LA that everyone loves, Weird Radicals are putting in their second show of the week with a new record in the works, Flight of Ryan used to be a rare Flagstaff band I would write about who have become a Phoenix band and I hope they have some news on the horizon, and Foresteater I literally can’t get enough of live or on record. This is a perfect night with perfect weather and perfect surroundings.

When & Where: Friday, March 31st, 8pm at The Trunk Space
Reasons To Attend: As much as I wanted another immaculate masterpiece from Good Friends Great Enemies, I didn’t want it served with their last hurrah. All Good Friends must come to pass though and so they will leave us with a brand new album we will love and it will fill us with bittersweet feelings for the rest of the year. I’ve known about this for a bit and as we press closer to the departure date it’s just making me more sad. The key is to focus on how great the album is, this will get you through. I wonder if they’ll have counselors there?
Other Details: Say farewell to your Good Friends and pick up a copy of our new album, “Esoterotica” !
Joining us will be…

When & Where: Saturday, April 1st, 8pm at The Rogue Bar
Reasons To Attend: This show is calling to me as well, because I love The Rogue Bar and I love all the locals on this lineup. In some cases it’s been way too long since I’ve seen them. This is going to be a super fun show, because I’ve seen shows with Scarlet 13, Captive Cooks and The Psychedelephants separately, having them together is going to be a blast.
