  • Cait Brennan – “Bad At Apologies” Can we just talk about Cait Brennan for a moment? I mean her debut album had me reeling last year, it felt like 1970′s AM Rock comfort food for my soul through every track. Debutante was a showcase for her as an artist, but especially as a songwriter. Flash forward through a decade of anyone else’s life experience, compressed into a rollicking year in her life and she presents her audience with Third. Don’t worry, her second album is coming, after this one, it’s quite a story. That said, Third is a landmark achievement,...

  • How hard is it to make a flyer? Or some customized image for the event you’re playing, or the poster the venue made for you that looks nice and tight and has all the details on it? I mean, I watch people make this kind of thing in five minutes, maybe ten if they’re picky about the font or the background image. I mean, if you don’t want some striking visual to yank peoples attention, I get it, keeping it all on the low down. Anyway enough of that, here’s the lineup for the shows that look awesome and have...

  • It blows my mind that I’ve known The Cherry Bluestorms since the International Pop Overthrow Festival of 2013. I’ve stayed in touch ever since the first time I saw them at the Sail Inn and reviewed their full length record Bad Penny Opera when they returned to Tempe for a set at Long Wong’s during Fairy Bones FBOM at Long Wong’s. How is that for a ton of local music scene history and oft-forgotten lore? They are currently working on completing their third album, which I am eagerly anticipating, because their classicist sense of psychedelic pop and rock drawn from...

  • No Volcano – “Take My Chances” Last year’s Dead Horse Power was one of my favorite albums of the year, local or otherwise, and I’ve been waiting some time to find out what the next single would be and if it would get the video treatment. Well, the single is “Take My Chances” and the video treatment is courtesy of Troy Farah. “Take My Chances” is literally a feast of guitars, with Jim Andreas and Jeremy Randall running the show on this particular track. It’s also got a killer pop hook and I can see why this become a crowd...

  • This is another week where folks will be heading out of town for exciting destination like Coachella weekend two, camping up North, or the Miami Loco Festival (see below), but here on the homefront things will be kicking real cool too. There are a bunch of record releases this week, a celebration of some holiday called simply “420″ and Record Store Day on Saturday. If you’re staying in town, it’s gonna’ be a real good time… When & Where: Wednesday, April 19th, 7pm at The Trunk Space Reasons To Attend: Andy Warpigs is releasing a new single and he’s inviting...

  • This week is a strange one for many reasons. There weren’t a lot of shows early in the week, otherwise I would have gotten this out earlier. That said, a lot of people are going to Coachella, including a lot of local musicians I know, then there is a local rockstar wedding that’s taking place in Bisbee which further diverts the crowd and the musicians away from town. Incidentally, it will also be diverting me. That said, the shows that are happening are truly explosive and no less than five record release show, four of which are on Friday. Now...

  •   Robin Vining – “Someone For Everyone” Robin Vining is one of Phoenix’s most treasured musicians. Whether it’s been in bands like Minibosses, Colorstore, Sweetbleeders or bands he’s toured with like Jimmy Eat World, Vining has been a pillar of the music scene for what seems an eternity. To list the entire roster of bands and recordings he’s made throughout the years would consume this entire column to give you some idea of the work he’s accomplished. This Friday, April 14th, Vining will be releasing his solo album at The Newton with Jon Rauhouse and Brandon Decker on hand. “Someone...

  • It’s difficult to say if the choices are just as difficult on both Friday and Saturday. For once, both prime weekend nights are jam packed at equal volume. It’s a great weekend and some of this towns biggest names are showing up all over the roster, as well as a lot of my favorites. I may resort to multi show hopping depending on the vibe in the air, but I’ll probably pick one can’t miss show for each night and stay put. What will you choose? Check it out below, it all starts Thurday night at Shady Park and goes...
