What’s Going Ahhhn…

This week is a strange one for many reasons. There weren’t a lot of shows early in the week, otherwise I would have gotten this out earlier. That said, a lot of people are going to Coachella, including a lot of local musicians I know, then there is a local rockstar wedding that’s taking place in Bisbee which further diverts the crowd and the musicians away from town. Incidentally, it will also be diverting me. That said, the shows that are happening are truly explosive and no less than five record release show, four of which are on Friday. Now let’s get to the good stuff.

When & Where: Thursday, April 13th, 6pm at the Tempe Center for the Arts
Reasons To Attend: This is probably the best way to kick off Weekend’s Eve as I now like to refer to Thursday, in fact you can catch this early on and have time to hit a completely different show. I’ve been to a lot of Anamieke’s shows lately with or without Treasurefruit and you should take the time to fall in love with her voice the way I have.
Other Details: Per Anamieke herself: Share an intimate evening with me, singer/songwriter Anamieke of Treasurefruit. Hear the stories behind the songs, highlights from the deep catalogue, and new material that the band doesn’t even know yet.
Free acoustic concert with just me and my heart on my sleeve at the Tempe Center for the Arts, in the lobby looking out over the lake.

When & Where: Thursday, April 13th, 8pm at The Rebel Lounge
Reasons To Attend: This is going to be fanfreakingtastic and I mean that if you want to shake your ass for four or five hours straight, head right to The Rebel Lounge. The last two shows I’ve seen with The Stakes have left indelible impressions in my heart, mind and my soul. Also, they’ve got this new song they played the last time they were at Rebel that will blow your mind.
Other Details: April 13th is the return of GET UP! A night of neo soul funk and good times! This month featuring special guests The StakesDr. Delicious! Come party! Advance tickets are just $3 – you can purchase at Stinkweeds or online at:http://www.therebellounge.com/event/1449327-get-up-night-neo-soul-funk-phoenix/

When & Where: Thursday, April 13th, 8pm at Time Out Lounge
Reasons To Attend: I meant to listen to the local acts on this lineup, but then I listened to Russian Girlfriends from New Mexico and I couldn’t stop. Wax Castle and Bad Funk are lending great support to an equally great visiting band. Highly recommended.

Dirty Sunset is working on a debut record, The Scorched is visiting from somewhere near here regionally and the evening finishes with Angels & Aliens! Solid evening indeed.

Reasons To Attend: So this is the first of five album release shows for the weekend spotlighted here. You can here Robin Vining’s new single right HERE and you should go check out this performance and his new album. When & Where: Friday, April 14th, 7pm at The Listening Room Phoenix
Reasons To Attend: Scattered Melodies just released another record today, well, at least on Spotify. It’s a short EP called Acoustics Vol 1 and I have every indication that you’re going to love the hell out of it. This is kind of a release party, but not officially, but this is an acoustic session for the band and they will be playing everything from the EP…so, yeah I’m calling it a release party.
Other Details: We encourage you to join us for an intimate performance by Scattered Melodies here on Friday April 14th. This dynamic duo and featured artists team up to bring you unplugged versions of some of their favorite songs. For more information on Scattered Melodies visitwww.scatteredmelodies.com, and stream their music online via Spotify or bandcamp.

When & Where: Friday, April 14th, 8pm at Last Exit Live
Reasons To Attend: I’ve been following along the MASON show because I tend to stalk everything Jacob Acosta does, well, musically anyway. This album is amazing rock’n'roll through and through and they’ve invited Harper and the Moths and Lonesome Wilderness on board for a fantastic night. This show is going to slay.

MASON
Mason is releasing their first full length album Midnight Road. This heavy blues rock record was recorded in each band members home studio, mixed by Chris Robinson in Indiana, and mastered by Jason Livermore from The Blasting Room. The modern retro style they’ve sculpted is reminiscent of rock music of the 60′s, with Hendrix-like vocals, bracing guitar solos, Zeppelin-esque drums, and overdriven bass much like Muse or Royal Blood. Midnight Road’s 10 original tracks are all stripped-down, short blasts of blue-collar blues, heavy on the rock with some contemporary flash.

HARPER AND THE MOTHS

Harper and the Moths is a Rock-Pop-Soul band from Phoenix, Arizona. A pop-rock-soul group akin to bands like The Killers and Neon Trees, the band produces energetic and complex rock and roll with a new wave twist that the whole family will eat up like sugar-flaked cereal. Harper and the Moths consists of lead singer and frontman, Harper Lines, Guitarist and singer, Chan Schulman, Bassist, David Campbell, Keyboard player and singer, Kelsee Kilo and Drummer, Etti Bowen

THE LONESOME WILDERNESS

Desert garage rock filled with traces of surf rock, classic punk and psychedelic rock, all mixed with sounds of the American Southwest.
The Lonesome Wilderness is a Phoenix-based rock band, formed in 2011. Members include sex-panther Joe Golfen, his time-traveling brother Paul, rocknrolla Andrea Custer and Baron Brian Weis. They originally drew their sound from surf, punk and 1960s influences, but while their backs were turned, some southwestern dust seeped under the door. You can find them playing shows on ramshackle stages in dirt lots, backyards and dark bars.

When & Where: Friday, April 14th, 8pm at Valley Bar
Reasons To Attend: Did you ever have a dream where shit got completely out of hand at Valley Bar and you trashed the place while thrashing to amazing tunage? This is the night to make that dream a reality with The Father Figures and French Girls on Friday night. It’s yet one more fantastic record release for the week and you can listen to “Heavy Lifting” right now, in case you have any reservations or want to make some.
Other Details: FINALLY! Please come out and celebrate the release of our fourth album, “Heavy Lifting,” on Friday, April 14th at the Valley Bar – and only $5. We’ll have four new songs to throw at you along with a couple new t-shirt designs based on the album cover. We’re excited to have French Girls sharing the night with us along with a couple of vinyl DJs. These release shows are important to us, but this one is different: we are releasing this one on vinyl with Slope Records AND this is by far our best collection of songs to date (we’ll also have CDs available). DJs at 8 and the whole show will be over at 11. Yes 11. Valley Bar only holds 275 so get a ticket to be safe. Thanks to Jim Andreas for the flyer and Mike Fisher for the ridiculous album art. See you soon!

Okilly Dokilly is going to be great, because they always great, now I need to research the kind of bands that are opening for them. When & Where: Saturday, April 15th, 1pm at Pho Cao
Reasons To Attend: This event is absolutely amazing and I hope this is shaping up to be an annual event that continues to grow each year. Last year was great, but it’s location was a bit prohibitive, this year it’s right at Pho Cao, so you know amazing food, drink and atmosphere will be on hand. If I wasn’t heading to Bisbee, I would be stationed here all day. This lineup is absolutely insane and so many of my favorites are on the roster. Please, for the love of all that is good, go to this for me and feel good about giving to this tremendous cause.
