What’s Going Ahhhn…

This is a hell of a week sneaking up on us and it is jam packed with amazing shows every night. Once we get to Thursday it becomes nearly as overwhelming as the Sun and continues into the weekend. Also, if we’re pretty much booking shows on Thursday like it’s the new Friday night, we need to get someone to fix the work week. Someone should check with our robot overlords on that, reason with the machines and argue that we’ll spend more money on our three day weekend if we get the same pay for four. Anyway, this week kicks ass. Let’s get to it.

When & Where: Tuesday, May 23, 7:30pm at Valley Bar
Reasons To Attend: I definitely need to check out Meatbodies based on the resume below. I would advise that you check out Strange Lot and Jade Helm for a dose of local juice that will get you going.
Other Details:  Get tickets at Stinkweeds, or here online http://ticketf.ly/2p1Dk65
Meatbodies
with special guests STRANGE LOT, and Jade Helm
Through the toxic foliage of the american slicked back hairdo there emerges the essence of the underground weirdo. Chad Ubovich, a worthy peer and collaborator to Ty SegallMikal Cronin, and Thee Oh Sees, leads an orchestra of straightforward guitar ragers that imagine punk and glam and psych and Sabbath-era metal as one big sludgy explosion – also known as Meatbodies

When & Where: Wednesday, May 24th, 6pm at The Trunk Space
Reasons To Attend: An awesome, perfect lineup at The Trunk Space to celebrate the death of fun due to the sun. I think I like the Summer here because it keeps people inside so I can roam the streets freely and get a tan. That said, this is also something of an Au Revoir party for Troy Farah, who has been one of my absolute favorite writers and humans in Phoenix for the last few years. This is going to be a solid show as well as a groovy time
Other Details: Summer is finally here! And counterintuitively, Phoenix residents do one thing in the hotter(est) months: HIDE. FROM. THE. SUN. The lack of vitamin D has the same effect on people dumb enough to shovel snow in other parts of the world: MAKES. YOU. DEPRESSED.
Anyway, let’s celebrate! It’s the last day you’ll be feeling cheerful for at least four months! Adios, Sunshine!

Other bands TBA

(Coincidentally, for local rock critic and all-around-drug-addict Troy Farah, this will be one of his last days in town before he moves. Come say hi or bye or punch him in the gut! There will be cake, a photobooth, ugly decorations, live art, live bees, dead mimes, fireworks display and Russian Roulette!!)
It’s *technically* free, but you should really give Trunk Space $5 so they can pay rent and maybe give some bands some gas money.

When & Where: Wednesady, May 24th, 7pm at The Rhythm Room
Reasons To Attend: Now we will enter a phase where  a lot of people will become interested in Tom Petty and a few others, kind of like how Bruce Springsteen came back into public favor a decade or so ago with the hip crowd. This is one of many events signalling this with a performance of the entire Wildflowers album by the talented gentlemen listed below.
Other Details: Local singer/songwriters and musicians Jay AllanBrian Chartrand,Matthew ThorntonTed BelledinRoy CameronEthan NewmanJay Poole are performing Tom Petty’s “WILDFLOWERS” album in its entirety at The Rhythm Room on Wednesday May 24th, 2017!!

When & Where: Thursday, May 25th, 7pm at Valley Bar
Reasons To Attend: This could be a sell out Friday or Saturday show with this lineup, and it may still sell out on a Thursday. I mean this should totally sell out either way, but what a blistering lineup for not necessarily a weekend night, right? decker., Bear Ghost, Upsahl and I Am Hologram? That’s some of Arizona’s finest right there, through and through. I’m not missing this.

Reasons To Attend: I’m going to need to check out Andrew Goldring, because if he has The Blood Feud Family Singers, El West and Cheap Hotels opening for him, he must be something special. This lineup would be worth the cover for the three locals, but I have a feeling you will get so much more.
Other DetailsAndrew Goldring is an Indie Folk/Rock singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist from Salt Lake City, UT. Utilizing his experience producing other artists to inform his own music, he is constantly expanding his creative vision and always searching for the perfect sound.

Pan Productions presents the live stage musical, The Goblin King’s City, an adaptation of the 1986 film Labyrinth.
From the directors and producers of Rocky Horror at The Firehouse, and A Swimming in the Head, this full stage production includes a large cast and crew of seasoned favorites, along with many new faces. A live, re-imagined version of the score will be brought to life by downtown favorites Jerusafunk, including an original song written and performed by We Are Hologram, the first full band performance by local musician I am Hologram. The show will also include an original song written by Serene Dominic.

The show will feature Chris Del Favero of Jerusafunk and local musical artist Joobs, who will share the role of Jareth the Goblin King, performing on alternating nights. We will feature Kendra Ruth Martinez as Sarah. The cast features Jesse Abrahams as Hoggle, Will Jones as Ludo, Alexandra Morfin as Sir Didymus, and Uche Ujania as Merlin/Ambrosias. Puppets for the production are being crafted by Adam Bullock.

You can enjoy our provided award winning food vendors, as well as being able to take home a piece of the magic, with art pieces provided by artists from all over the valley.

There is still time to get involved! We are looking for extras, as well as stage hands. Please contact Sheri Amourr or Joe Sawinski, or email thegoblinkingscity@gmail.com if you are interested in helping out! We are also seeking sponsors, and are in the process of launching a fundraising campaign for the production.

We are striving to entertain and continue the memories that have influenced so many.
