  • Fairy Bones – “No One Can Suffer Like I Can” Fairy Bones new single has been on heavy rotation every day for nearly a month even though it only came out two weeks ago, but I can bend time. Either way, not a day has gone by that I haven’t listened to this tune repeatedly. Quick on the heels of its release to online music outlets everywhere, Fairy Bones have released a video for “No One Can Suffer Like I Can”, beautifully directed by Jeremy Tremp. If I do a Top Forty local singles this year this will almost assuredly...

  • The Stakes – “Unified/House Party” Last week at some point I wrote a 2000 word love letter about The Stakes new masterpiece Prophecy, it’s going to show up in next month’s JAVA Magazine. When I write something like that, I prepare by listening to the album a dozen times and then write the article while listening to it again. Sometimes after these articles, I don’t want to hear the album for a while. Prophecy was the first album I wanted to listen to the next morning. In fact, “Unified” pounded through my skull until I was awake. The entire album...

  • Ah yes, we are in the thick of Summer now. The shows thin out a little bit, but folks are still releasing albums and EPs and even a cassette here and there. If you’re a true desert dweller, the heat won’t stop you from heading out to shows once the air becomes tolerable and the radiation from the streets and sidewalk have receded a bit. Plus, amazingly enough, all of these venues feature air conditioning. Shocking! Any check out all these groovy things happening… When & Where: Thursday, June 29th, 7pm at The Listening Room Reasons To Attend: I spent...

  • When I first heard “Clay Pigeon” a few months ago, I sat in silence as the last chords still hung in the air and simply said “Holy Fuck!” The song wasn’t even finished yet. Was this Ben Anderson? The same Ben Anderson who had put out the soft spoken and lovely Where The Lights Go? EP last year? The singer songwriter I had met a year prior at the behest of my girlfriend and a host of other musicians about town? Instant two word review, “Holy Fuck!” It’s all I could say as I shook my head in disbelief staring...

  • Strictly Flyers! Or fliers if you prefer. Either way there’s too much to do, no time to sleep and the impressive combination of migraine and sweltering heat is getting to me. If you have a really cool show that doesn’t have a flyer, make a flyer and let me know. There were a few that sadly did not. I can post them on the fly pretty easily when I’m not yakking your ear off about why yo should attend. Here we go… TUESDAY, JUNE 20TH WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21ST THURSDAY, JUNE 22ND ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ FRIDAY, JUNE 23RD SATURDAY, JUNE 24TH SUNDAY, JUNE...

  • The Sink or Swim seem to be on ever ascending arc since they appeared on the scene early last year. In 2016 they put out two flawless EPs, which find people still debating over which was better. This year they’ve been working hard on new recordings with newest member Derek Rossman joining the original core trio of Nate Zeune, Louis Resnick and Niel Erlich. “Arizona” was the first of two single leading up to a brand new EP, a slightly different mid-tempo number which was no less hook heavy than the upbeat fare they’ve offered so far in their catalog....

  • decker. – “Matchstick Man” Last year I celebrated my birthday with the vinyl release of decker.’s Snake River Blues and this year, I’ll be celebrating with the bands career spanning compilation Into The Red. In anticipation of that release, decker. has released their brand new single “Matchstick Man.” Ultimately, it is a protest song, but one that reminds us that the fate of the nation is in the people’s hands, not the elite we allow to rule. Musically speaking it picks up approximately where Snake River Blues left off, leaving the Americana further behind in the rearview, while embracing rock’n'roll...

  • Weird Radicals – “John Lennon (Headbangin’)” I feel like if the Elephant 6 Collective was still in active existence Weird Radicals would be immediately brought into that roster of garage pop monsters. Last year this band was on fire with one delicious single after another which they eventually compiled into the strictly digital Strictly Business EP. They will be releasing their completely new Flight Of Fancy EP at the end of this month and “John Lennon (Headbangin’)” is the first taste of this wonderful new record. Though they’ve assembled a pretty impressive live band, their studio work is still the...
