What’s Going Ahhhn…

Well, the honest answer to what’s going on, is not too terribly much when it comes to local music–and I’m saying this after scrubbing through every venues calendar. Granted, a couple events didn’t have flyers, but still–not a whole lot’s going down. This is par for the course as he try to convince ourselves that Summer ends with August, to fuel our eternal September disappointment. Anywhere here’s where to find those damn jams you crave…

When & Where: Wednesday, August 16th, 7:30pm at The Trunk Space
Reasons To Attend: It’s AJJ performing an album from their days a decade ago when they were known as Andrew Jackson Jihad, which is a lot less funny in 2017 than it was in 2007. Anyway, this thing runs for four nights but Wednesday may still have tickets left. You may want to find other ways to get tickets for other nights through friends if Wednesday is not your night for nostalgia trips. Either way, this is going to be stunning because it’s AJJ and they’ve been consistently awesome forever, perhaps even before they were a band.
Other Details: ~*WEDNESDAY EDITION*~
Our oldest and best friends in AJJ celebrate 10 years of “People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People in the World.” The band will play the entire album, and reinterpret newer tunes in the “classic” Sean-and-Ben duo styleeee. Tour kickoff, and picture disc vinyl reissue on Asian Man Records!

Surprises to be revealed!

When & Where: Wednesday, August 16th, 7pm at The Rebel Lounge
Reasons To Attend: I’m already a fan of Breakup Shoes and recent finds Post Hoc, so I’ve got some homework to do and get down to checking out FutureSpeak and Fly The Coup. I have a feeling this is going to be a stellar show. It’s going to be the kind of show you’ll be talking about on the weekend, still in disbelief that it happened on a Wednesday night at The Rebel.

When & Where: Wednesday, August 16th, 7pm at The Womack
Reasons To Attend: If you’re looking for something a little different, I gotta give a shout out to Whiskey Kiss holding it down at The Womack on Wednesday night. If you haven’t heard of Whiskey Kiss you’re in for a treat. Not too many great female fronted rockabilly bands out there and if there were, they would still be a cut above the rest.
Other Details: Join us for a wild Wednesday with Whiskey Kiss – a female fronted roots rock band with a modern retro edge, rockabilly influence, and a lot of energy!

When & Where: Thursday, August 17th, 8pm at The Rogue Bar
Reasons To Attend: I wish there were links for the bands in the event to make it easier for you to get a sense of what this evening will be about, but there aren’t and I don’t want to do the strenuous Google work for you. Trust me, this is an awesome night and it’s the only thing worth a damn happening Thursday as far as I can tell, so hit up your favorite dive bar.

Reasons To Attend: This is the hottest option for Friday night if you want to turn on to some amazing, mind altering, soul opening, horizon expanding music. Seriously, Jerusafunk returns from tour on the heels of their amazing album release, Sunn Trio just dropped their stunning record and The Myrrors from Tucson will absolutely blow your mind. I can’t imagine a lineup that as weird and wonderful as this.

When & Where: Friday, August 18th 8pm at Last Exit Live
Reasons To Attend: I need to check out Nothing On The Moon, I know they had something out a couple years ago I missed, but I swear they’ve got something new in the works. That said, I can’t remember the last time Captive Cooks played, but they are always amazing and best experienced live, say at Last Exit with the perfect sound system forever. The Real Fits are pumping out single after single and Japhy’s Descent is always interested in bringing the rock’n'roll. Good times will be had. Memories will be made.

When & Where: Friday, August 18th, 8pm at The Lost Leaf
Reasons To Attend: dent just dropped a fantastic new record and I’m sincerely hoping Bear State is getting ready to do the same. I just pulled up Vance Nowe’s bandcamp page and I’m digging on some of the most unusual music I can’t quite wrap my head around in a while. Yeah, this is going to be a great show. The entire lineup will create magic and build off one another. I’m only one song in, to this Vance Nowe album and I’m fascinated, which is always a good sign.

When & Where: Saturday, August 19th, 8pm at Last Exit Live
Reasons To Attend: I tend to like shows where I’ve written extensively about each band. I mean I only write about what I genuinely like, so it stands to reason that if all four bands on the bill keep me coming back for more, I’m going to love every moment of the show. This is one of those shows. Click on all the band names below if you are unfamiliar
