What’s Going Ahhhn…

Now that Summer is dead I realized the entire time I had the “Summertime Blues,” which probably would have cheered me up if I had thought of that rock’n'roll connotation, but the lyrics do specify that there is simply no cure. Either way, Anthony Fama correctly predicted and enforced the Worst Summer Ever ethic and we all went along with it, really, really well. But Fuck it, it’s Fall now and that’s like our Spring here in the land of reverse seasonal hibernation. Got a killer week once more and this goes straight through to Monday, because I want to be at next Mondays show once again. Also, I hate Mondays, so after hating it all day, it’s good to see friends and hear music I love. Let’s Rock!

When & Where: Thursday, September 28th, 7pm at Time Out Lounge
Reasons To Attend: This is where I usually say something, but the awesome descriptions below do all of my work for me with wit and intelligence.
Other Details: Nightmare Sonata are a famously theatrical horror punk band from Greensboro, NC, stopping through Tempe to rock, spook, and/or otherwise entertain your face off Thursday, Sept. 28 at Time Out Lounge!www.nightmaresonata.com
Local support from the following:

The Cult of the Yellow Sign (the textbook definition of goatwave — need I say more?)

The Invisible Teal (emotional, absurd, and lyric-driven art pop from the heart and loins)

Schux Famicom (electronic musician’s first-ever live performance of original material)

Manifest (redefining what it means to be a “one-man band” in the 21st century)

Admission is free (though donations at the door are encouraged) and 21+. More details forthcoming!

When & Where: Thursday, September 28th, 7pm at The Rebel Lounge
Reasons To Attend: I don’t know anything about I Don’t Know How But They Found Me, but I know that Paper Foxes and Sunday at Noon absolutely slay so I can guarantee this show is going to be killer from beginning to end.
Other Details: I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME is a band out of time. One who faded away into obscurity after struggling to find success in the late 70′s and early 80′s. Only recently, the internet has begun to uncover the performances and recordings of a band that the world wasn’t ready for.
Perhaps the world is ready now…

Reasons To Attend: I’m just going to talk about Lee Perreira here, because he is the known quantity and he’s one of my favorite guitarists in town. One thing I know about Lee is that he only keeps like minded company that may approach the zenith of his talent. Long story short, this is probably going to blow your mind.

When & Where: Friday, September 29th, 7pm at Bonus Round
Reasons To Attend: This is probably the coolest event of the entire weekend to be found at the weirdest venue. I still haven’t been to the Bonus Round, but the level of shows happening there are pretty stunning lately. Also, I understand they have a sign now, which is a plus. Either this lineup is out of this world and as weird and wonderful as you want to be.

Militia Joan Hart – Vaporgoth super group

Note from Scott:
While I’m blessed to have lots friends in bands I absolutely love around Phoenix, I decided to book this show to try to encompass the different genres that have influenced my music. Adding Militia Joan Hart is kind of cheating though, since it’s a supergroup with Wolfzie, Dadadoh, Andy Warpigs, and myself.

This is the first time I’ve released a solo album since I’ve lived in Phoenix.

When & Where: Friday, September 29th, 7:30pm at The Rebel Lounge
Reasons To Attend: Once upon a time The Wiley Ones ruled the land–alright, that might be exaggerating a little, but they were a huge deal and their shows were always a ton of fun. This special night marks their long overdue return to the scene (which to be fair, Sam Wiley did say he was sick of on their last full length album, seriously though it’s track ten on 2012′s Kill It With Love). That said, The Wiley Ones will be joined by Ebinezer and The Stakes as they perform new material for the first time in a long time. This promises to be an off the hook event in no uncertain terms. If you’re not going to be there, hope someone films it.
Other Details: THE WILEY ONES at The Rebel Lounge

With special mini set from 7Horse!Two decades after the Los Angeles outfit dada embarked on its original journey, singer-guitarist Michael Gurley, singer-bassist Joie Calio and drummer Phil Leavitt are celebrating the band’s 25th anniversary with plans for a tour deemed the “dada Forever Tour” in 2017.“dada is about digging into our roots, examining and celebrating it.” Says CalioSince the release of their groundbreaking 1992 debut Puzzle, the trio has created an array of songs boasting progressive rock musicianship, dazzling vocal harmonies and melodic power pop layered with a hint of psychedelic rock. Adding to the trio’s groundbreaking line of attack are the marathon-length shows that deliver on the promise that every performance is the only one of its kind.Puzzle was released on September 8, 1992, and it didn’t take long for the band’s sonic imprint to find an audience. The album’s first single “Dizz Knee Land” found widespread airplay on alternative and mainstream rock outlets cracking the Top 5 on the Modern Rock Single’s chart and pushing the album’s sales to over 1,000,000 worldwide.
