Singles Going Steady Archive

  • While there are more than enough albums and EPs keeping me busy these days, I have to say that this is shaping up to be a Summer of singles. This hasn’t happened in a couple of years where the bands go single crazy and its easy to assemble your soundtrack to Summer, but I guess it’s one of those years and I have no complaints in any capacity about that. Here are four new singles that cover a wide spectrum of sound and I’m digging all of them. Here’s to more singles all Summer long! Jane Joyce – “Kill This...

  • The season pool parties, late night madness until dawn and more noticeable warmth is well on its way and there is nothing better to celebrate the six month Summer season than some sweet singles that make the living a little easier. These three songs scream “Anthems of Summer” and they have all been released in the last week. This is all Summer time music from the surf pop rock of Party Gardens to the easy Stax soul of Samuel L Cool J to the Funky Ska of The Hourglass cats, if nothing gets you in the mood for the life...

  • In addition to the great EPs and Albums that are starting to flow through the Arizona scene, singles are starting to pop up wildly. Many of them are teasers and previews of albums and EPs soon to be released and I’ve selected four that have been released this month from bands I adore. The range from intentionally lo-fi to expertly produced and their styles are all over the place. Some of the newer singles have gone straight to video and I’ve already covered those (“Mirror, Mirror” by Banana Gun and “Melted Together” by The Prowling Kind), but I realized enough...

  • There have been a lot of great artistic debuts in the Valley of the Sun this year, hell, I could probably do a top ten list right now. Then again, I could do a top ten list of bands that have abandoned the valley or broken up or joined the Federal witness relocation program…so the world of music gives and takes in balance I suppose. One of my favorite debuts of 2013 is, without a doubt, Fairy Bones. One of four bands born from the ashes of Born Loser and The Hangers On  (Sister Lip, Naked Pizza and Head are...

  • Only one month into the  New Year and there is a hell of a lot going on in our music community. We’ve already had five record release shows, an unbelievable amount of amazing shows (shows that made me want to make this a paying gig so I could write about each and every epiphany I had in January) and even more records released whose release shows appear to be in waiting for the  opportune time.  Still, there were a few singles that I couldn’t find time to cover–granted this is mostly due to my immune system failing against the cold...

  • The Wiley One is becoming pretty reliable for putting out great video art to match the magic of their music–let’s consider last summers “UFO Man” which made magnificent use of marionettes to tell the outer space story of the song in brilliant fashion, for instance. I’m not sure I’ll be completely satisfied until there is a video for every song from last years amazing sophomore release Kill It With Love–not only because I love that album completely, but because each video  just get’s better and better. Released just today is the newest in a line  of videos from this unique...

  • One of  my  favorite new  groups of  2012 that have “hit the ground  the running” and  emerged  as a band  I try to catch every time they play is  PALMS. There are other groups that debuted this year that I knew couldn’t disappoint, like supergroup Zero Zero (who play with PALMS quite often!), but PALMS was an unexpected surprise at how great they were from the onset and how quickly they garnered my favor. Today, as a special Christmas present for all their fans, PALMS has released their new single “Dirty Little Knees” and today only, you can download it...

  • With it being Christmas Eve and all, I thought it would be great to share with you the amazing slew of Christmas songs that have rolled into my inbox over the last few weeks. Local artists have really done a great job this year of promoting the holiday spirit and the submissions for Christmas songs were still rolling in as late as yesterday. Here is a nice little collection of tunes to keep your ears warm and your heart merry. Songs are posted in the order I received them to avoid any confusion in their placement. • Future Loves Past have definitely been one of the more fascinating bands to watch evolve over the last two years of their official existence. They have also been a band whose recent decisions and new directions have been more surprising than ever. Here is a band who essentially had an entire albums worth of songs that would drive a crowd absolutely insane for more than an hour at every gig they played. Granted four of these songs were already released on their debut EP, but still they had added enough like-minded songs  to their repertoire (“Seekers” for instance) that it seemed...

Yesterday, I wrote about today and the release of the long awaited album Unbelievable Souls by Peachcake, but what I didn’t know is at the exact moment  the album would be released, the new video for their recent single “The World Is Our Platform To Mean Something” would also be released. Today I thought this was worthy of further mention, not only because I love Peachcake’s music, I  love Unbelievable Souls, I totally dig this...
