  • Well, this is a jam packed weekend kids, no doubt about it. There is so much action going on its unbelievable and I’m not just talking about what will be happening in peoples pants, rather, what will be happening at venues across the valley. The kicker for me is that my beloved Jeepster is in the garage and I will be damn lucky if I surface at all this weekend. Thus I encourage everyone to make the most of this incredible list of shows that I will most probably miss. Although, I must admit when I see a lineup like...

  • One thing that has become clear to me over the last year is that I love the local labels that are brewing up some goddamned tasty tunes in this town. In this case, I am clearly referring to the prolific and much beloved cassette collective Rubber Brother Records. I wasn’t even aware of the depths of my affection for them until the November 2013 issue of JAVA Magazine when I inadvertently featured four of their bands in one issue (to my credit, Celebration Guns was added to the roster after the issue was published, but still it would have been...

  • Well, hell it’s been a damned rocky road to get to 2014. I feel like last year I was trucking along full speed and killing it with unbreakable momentum. The fact that I haven’t posted in over a month proves that I hit a roadblock. I apologize for ducking out for an unplanned hiatus. Hey, I’m only one guy–I don’t have a staff and only occasionally do I have other contributors, mostly this is a one man show. A show I intend to get back on the road. The main problem for me began in October when there was a...

  • Somewhere last Summer I was bitching about the lack of authentic rock’n’roll amidst our amazing music collective, this is something I do from time to time—mainly, so people can call me out on it and then I find a bunch of rock bands that make music to soothe my soul and damage my ears. That particular night, Austin Owen (Ladylike, Wooden Indian, Gospel Claws at times and ten other bands) called me out on it and said, “Just wait until you hear my new project Petty Things.” Within two weeks I had and it was beyond great. Now, when I...
