  • There are a lot of great things going on this weekend, probably too many in fact and most of them seem to be squeezed into Saturday. Not only is Saturday Record Store Day, a celebration of independent record stores across the globe in which music geeks like myself and nearly everyone I know go on a bender buying up one day exclusive releases to add further fodder to our treasure trove of secret sounds, guilty pleasures and aural indulgences, which should be enough for any day, it also happens to be Phochella! For the last three years Beef Vegan has...

  • There are few nights that I go out on the town that I can say that the evening was touching, moving and heartwrenchingly emotional. However, this was indeed the case at Last Exit Live last Thursday, February 27th when The Dirty Rascals Presented the Music of Andrew Duncan Brown. Last October 13th, Brown passed away mysteriously while on vacation in France and those who had known him or who had been a fan of his music were devastated. Andrew was a prolific artist with a songwriting talent like few others, I saw him before he left and he was excited...

  • Well, hell it’s been a damned rocky road to get to 2014. I feel like last year I was trucking along full speed and killing it with unbreakable momentum. The fact that I haven’t posted in over a month proves that I hit a roadblock. I apologize for ducking out for an unplanned hiatus. Hey, I’m only one guy–I don’t have a staff and only occasionally do I have other contributors, mostly this is a one man show. A show I intend to get back on the road. The main problem for me began in October when there was a...

  • As some of you may or may not know, I became freed of my day job on May 1st–the news of which I greeted with, at worst, ambivalence and at best a fair amount of happiness. Honestly, I’ve been missing out on a lot of killer shows during the week and the opportunity to spend a few weeks checking out what’s happening between Sunday and Friday, kind of thrilled me. This time has not gone wasted, though, I’ve not spent every night at a show–I’ve certainly tried to make the most of it. I would like to say that first...

  • Fayuca has become a legendary local band during the last decade—between the amazing music they make, which intricately weaves  the sounds of their Latin heritage into an obvious love of punk rock, reggae and ska and the way they present that music live, which is completely unhinged. I had seen them several times set the rabid crowds afire at many a venue with full on electric performances that made my mind reel—but when I saw them performing a few songs at an intimate Fervor Records party with the same intense ferocity, I was absolutely blown away. Here is a band...

  • I’ve written about this cause before in the pages in this blog and I really do think it’s a very cool cause. This time it is a little different from the spaghetti dinner at the school with an amazing lineup. The  8th grade band from Pueblo Del Sol Middle School is going on a field trip to perform at a concert festival in Anaheim and go to Disneyland. The trip will cost $11,000 for the whole band to go and $300 per student. They are trying hard to raise money, so their students can go. This is a huge honor...
