St. Ranger Archive

  • I’ve been waiting for this for a while. Well, actually to be precise, when St. Ranger played their final show at Parliament on November 22nd and I bought a cassette and Andrew Phipps gave me a free t-shirt and I told him to go fuck himself. So, it’s been three months.  I loved St. Ranger and I always wanted either a second EP from them or an entire full length album, partly because I watched them from the beginning and saw them grow far beyond what I imagined, but alas, all things must pass. That same night that I told...

  • Well, hell it’s been a damned rocky road to get to 2014. I feel like last year I was trucking along full speed and killing it with unbreakable momentum. The fact that I haven’t posted in over a month proves that I hit a roadblock. I apologize for ducking out for an unplanned hiatus. Hey, I’m only one guy–I don’t have a staff and only occasionally do I have other contributors, mostly this is a one man show. A show I intend to get back on the road. The main problem for me began in October when there was a...

  • Every now and then there is a venue residency in town that has a non-stop, mindblowing lineup all month long. This time around it’s Wooden Indian hosting every Friday Night in  April at Long Wong’s Firehouse for their ever successful FBOM series. I’ve been an avid fan of Wooden Indian since I saw them play in the dark at the ante-chamber of the Icehouse at last year’s What Laura Says release party and try to see them every chance I can get. Wooden Indian is one of the rising local bands, still on  the fringe, intent on finding new sounds...

  • I first heard St. Ranger when they played an opening slot for The Whisperlights CD release party at the Duce and I was stunned—I hadn’t even heard of them before, much less heard their music. I’ve caught them live a couple times since and each time, I’m impressed at how they just continually get better. Last month they released their debut five song EP, Life Coach through their bandcamp site, it will receive its official physical release on February 16th. I was pretty impressed by their single last spring of “Ohnowoe/Shark Week” but the five new songs they present here...

  • Future Loves Past.  In the timespan of a year they have gone from being a band that made me smirk with the potential I saw in them to a full on revolution of sight, sound and mindblowing kinetic ferocity–they have exceeded the potential I saw by many lengths and no matter how many times I see them live I am moved by them, physically prompted to dance and left in amazement as the hazy daze they create dissipates with the final tones of their set still reverberating in the air. They have a way of controlling the vibe in the...

  • This Saturday should be an amazing evening at the Foundry On First. What Laura Says is hosting the End of Summer Ball and it should be quite an evening of amazing music! If nothing else, the lineup is amazing, once more What Laura Says has assembled and amazing evening featuring Mergence, Wizards Of Time, Benny Marchant, Wooden Indian, The Technicolors and St. Ranger. If this is anything like the release party What Laura Says threw at the start of the summer, this is simply not an evening to miss. Doors open at 6pm, the event is all ages and tickets are...
