Other Favorite Live Bands 2014
Posted on January 21, 2015 | No CommentsI probably should have done this in the reverse order. I wanted to give the following nine bands honorable mentions, because they made life great last year. Instead, I announced Field Tripp as the favorite instead of mentioning the others and there are still more honorable mentions I could think of (like 20 or 30 more), but these were bands that I either continually saw again and again or would go way the hell out of my way to see in 2014. I chose them in the most rational sense I made list straight off the top of my head,... -
VideosAroundTown: Sundressed “Hold Your Head Up High”
Posted on January 29, 2014 | No CommentsIt occurred to me that I’ve been following Sundressed since the start and at first, honestly they came off a little folky for my tastes, but there has that hint of grit that kept me watching, kept me listening. I was subtly impressed by their debut EP, then subsequently blown away by last years Whiskey With Milk and most recently, I have been stunned by the two new recordings they contributed to a split tape on Rubber Brother Records with Days of Light Gravity. I was actually stunned, as I had been waiting for their new release to discover that it would barely cover the totality of a traditional commercial slot. Nevertheless, Obsessive Repulsive is pretty brilliant. That’s just on the thought of “Beer Gut” alone, “‘Cause it ain’t getting better than it is right now” which can either... -

Sundressed In All Their Splendor!
Posted on December 17, 2012 | 2 Comments“Honestly speaking, I’m thinking of drinking again, not like before, but more like a gentleman,” begins the debut, eponymously titled EP from Sundressed. It is a great start to a great EP, that plays like an indie rock confessional romp through a genre bending sextet who describes themselves as “happy sad indie folk rock.” The description of which does not fall short of the mark—as much uplifting pop awareness as, emotional or intellectual consternation, Sundressed puts on a pretty amazing set of songs here. Beyond “That Same Wishing Well,” the follow up track, “Golden Boy” invites female vocal accompaniment that...
