Taylor Upsahl’s Precocious Debut Album
Posted on April 18, 2014 | No CommentsI’ve got to admit that I never thought in a million years that I would recommend an album that was recorded by a fourteen year old singer/songwriter. It never even crossed my mind that I would even be interested in what a girl that age could say or play without thinking they had so much more territory to cross, so much more life to do, so much more to realize and maybe find their course of talent. This was until I heard the debut album by Taylor Upsahl. I actually didn’t realize her youth until reading the description on CDBaby,... -
The Sixth Annual International Pop Overthrow Phoenix!
Posted on March 25, 2014 | No CommentsI’ve told the story many times before, but I think that once a year it bears repeating. Yes, there is something in the combination of Ian Breslin on Drums, Kevin Loyd on Vocals and Guitar, Nic Dehaan on Guitar and vocals, Ross Troost on Bass and Kyle Scarborough on Sax and vocals, but together, there is magic here. There is also a hell of a lot of rock. It’s not a coincidence that Banana Gun is already one of my favorite bands around... -
Jared & The Mill – Western Expansion
Posted on September 16, 2013 | 1 CommentOver the last two years six young men performing music deeply steeped in Americana roots and traditional folk music have made an enormous impact in Arizona music. In the last year alone it’s been difficult to go to any venue without seeing a flyer for Jared & The Mill or, in fact seeing them play. These years of continually playing together have primed Jared & The Mill for a thoroughly engaging album featuring originally composed songs that combine their inspirations of Folk Music, Bluegrass, Americana, and good old Rock ‘n’ Roll. They also seem to have a broad appeal to... -
