  • Well, hell it’s been a damned rocky road to get to 2014. I feel like last year I was trucking along full speed and killing it with unbreakable momentum. The fact that I haven’t posted in over a month proves that I hit a roadblock. I apologize for ducking out for an unplanned hiatus. Hey, I’m only one guy–I don’t have a staff and only occasionally do I have other contributors, mostly this is a one man show. A show I intend to get back on the road. The main problem for me began in October when there was a...

  • As some of you may or may not know, I became freed of my day job on May 1st–the news of which I greeted with, at worst, ambivalence and at best a fair amount of happiness. Honestly, I’ve been missing out on a lot of killer shows during the week and the opportunity to spend a few weeks checking out what’s happening between Sunday and Friday, kind of thrilled me. This time has not gone wasted, though, I’ve not spent every night at a show–I’ve certainly tried to make the most of it. I would like to say that first...

  • Fayuca has become a legendary local band during the last decade—between the amazing music they make, which intricately weaves  the sounds of their Latin heritage into an obvious love of punk rock, reggae and ska and the way they present that music live, which is completely unhinged. I had seen them several times set the rabid crowds afire at many a venue with full on electric performances that made my mind reel—but when I saw them performing a few songs at an intimate Fervor Records party with the same intense ferocity, I was absolutely blown away. Here is a band...

  • The Wiley One is becoming pretty reliable for putting out great video art to match the magic of their music–let’s consider last summers “UFO Man” which made magnificent use of marionettes to tell the outer space story of the song in brilliant fashion, for instance. I’m not sure I’ll be completely satisfied until there is a video for every song from last years amazing sophomore release Kill It With Love–not only because I love that album completely, but because each video  just get’s better and better. Released just today is the newest in a line  of videos from this unique...

In that time he has toured relentlessly with his ensemble band decker. and issued three releases on his on his own Mescal Porch Records. The most recent release is a seven song EP called Broken Bells, Broken Bones and as with the previous releases of Long Days and Long As The Night it is once again brilliant soul searching music that explores the conflicts of his own mind and heart, between the difference of reality and dreams in a tight...

  • Earlier this year Arizona musicians made a definite impact at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX. Largely through the efforts or echocloud.tv and the many benefit shows they held to get the artists there, some of the bands they helped send there got national press attention for their attendance. This year there are a few collective groups heading to this nexus of indie music in the only hip city of Lone Star State. One of these groups is the locally rocking radio crew surrounding The Morning Infidelity show on KWSS 106.7, which has become, in my world and in...

  • I kind of get the feeling that The Wiley One won’t be hanging around Phoenix for very long. First of all, they are one of the few local bands whose songs have made it to television, having been heard on Fuel TV and ESPN, they’re well known for their environmental awareness and have worked with Disney’s Planet Challenge and their Bio Diesel bus tour caught the attention of Billboard Magazine’s Green Issue. Not to mention they have attracted large audiences in Los Angeles, New York and everywhere in between. Sundawg Records has a nice little treasure with the Wiley One,...
