There Is Danger – Gold Mine EP
Posted on July 29, 2015 | No CommentsIn 2013, in no uncertain terms, my favorite local album was Living Dreams by There Is Danger. I still play that album on a regular basis. Born from the ashes of The Whisperlights, Ills Riske had sojourned on to make some of my favorite music in the valley to this day. Their follow up EP, Gold Mine, is no different in this matter. First of all, Riske may be one of the more underrated songwriters in the entire town, secondly, he has an ear for chiming, amazing indie rock that should just grab your heart and run with it. The... -
Party Gardens – Dance Flora EP
Posted on July 2, 2014 | No CommentsThough it’s only a couple weeks into Summer technically speaking, Party Gardens already released THE EP of the season a month ago. If you haven’t heard of Party Gardens it’s because they used to be called Yellow Minute, moved to LA and changed their name (a trend I’m not sure if they or KNESSET started and which Future Loves Past has followed). Since Sean Brennan surrounded himself with some of the best parts of What Laura Says and formed a full band, I have been waiting eagerly for this release and there is no disappointment found here in any capacity. ... -
Whisperlights Final Show
Posted on January 10, 2014 | No CommentsI suppose one of life’s hardest lessons is that all things must pass. We’ve learned that around this town recently, either with the passing of friends or with the dissolution of some of our favorite bands. One of the bands I hold in the highest esteem is finally calling it quits after nearly five years of aural bliss that I can recall. At least they are doing it in style and having one final send off at Crescent Ballroom this Saturday, joined by There Is Danger and Dry River Yacht Club. That lineup alone should make Crescent your destination for... -
There Is Danger in Living Dreams
Posted on August 1, 2013 | No CommentsSometimes you discover albums by going to shows, by following the bands, by paying your dues and meeting them face to face—there are other times when you find out about an album that will tantalize your ears and no one knows about it. This is what I live for. I have been a fan of The Whisperlights for years now, but when I heard that Ills Riske was putting out an album under the label of There Is Danger, I was thrilled and very nearly overwhelmed. Now, I know about his talent and the musicians he could assemble, but I... -
The Whisperlights Unleash Their New Album, Surfaces At The Duce!!!
Posted on June 22, 2011 | No CommentsThis should turn out to be the show of June. Admittedly, I’ve missed a lot of good shows during the last few weeks, I know I’ve missed a lot of great shows, but if I’m not mistaken, this is going to top everything for the month. First off, it’s The Whisperlights releasing an amazing record called Surfaces, an album I have spent quite a bit of time with over the past week or so, working on the July/August feature for JAVA Magazine. After nearly twenty listens to the album, surprisingly, it doesn’t grow old, not so surprisingly, after that many listens you...
