  • In 2013, in no uncertain terms, my favorite local album was Living Dreams by There Is Danger. I still play that album on a regular basis. Born from the ashes of The Whisperlights, Ills Riske had sojourned on to make some of my favorite music in the valley to this day. Their follow up EP, Gold Mine, is no different in this matter. First of all, Riske may be one of the more underrated songwriters in the entire town, secondly, he has an ear for chiming, amazing indie rock that should just grab your heart and run with it. The...

  • Everytime I go to a Ree Boado/Dearspeak release show, it’s something of a magical event and it’s almost always an intimate emotional affair. I also always experience something wonderful and get to hear new music I’ve never heard before. The first solo release she had was the first time I ever heard Ladylike and I’ve been a fan of them ever since. This time around it was celebrating here new EP Out of the Mouth of Caves and it was once again a great evening, this time at the Rhythm Room for a night of storytelling and yes, intimate, emotional...

  • I have been a fan of Ree Boado since the first moment I heard her heavenly voice and listened to her intelligent though provoking lyricism. I missed out when she was in Art For Starters, but I’ve been following her solo work and her work with Dearspeak faithfully from the start.  Her album Pretty Little Flies was one of my favorite albums of 2011 and I honestly can’t believe it’s been that long since her last solo release.  I was over the moon happy when she contacted me about releasing a brand new EP this month. Out of the Mouth...

  • Well, hell it’s been a damned rocky road to get to 2014. I feel like last year I was trucking along full speed and killing it with unbreakable momentum. The fact that I haven’t posted in over a month proves that I hit a roadblock. I apologize for ducking out for an unplanned hiatus. Hey, I’m only one guy–I don’t have a staff and only occasionally do I have other contributors, mostly this is a one man show. A show I intend to get back on the road. The main problem for me began in October when there was a...

  • It seems May is the month to release amazing records here in the Valley of the Sun and the hits just keep coming. In fact record releases are seemingly endless throughout the rest of the summer. On Thursday, May 12th there was magic in the air at the Rhythm Room to celebrate the release of Peachcake’s new five track EP This Wasn’t Our Plan. Not only is the Rhythm Room just about the perfect place to hold a release party (the sound is always great at the Rhythm Room, at least for the last few years), but the bands choice of...
